INNOVATIVE RAPID AERIAL WATER SUPPLY

May contain: helicopter, transportation, aircraft, vehicle, and box

A Rapid Aerial Water Supply (RAWS) is a remotely activated snorkal system which enables helicopter pilots to access 5,000 gallons of water within 120 seconds in case of nearby fire emergencies. Rainbow worked with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the North County Fire Protection District to find an appropriate site for the RAWS. The criteria included no power lines, a site elevated or on top of a hill, a site which provides a 360 degree view, and adequate water pressure and volume to refill the Heli-Hydrant. Currently the only other Heli-Hydrant in use is in Yorba Linda, so the Rainbow is now the first in San Diego County.
